The Durban Metropole has become the 13th municipality to facilitate the payment of camera traffic fines through EasyPay.
The Durban Metropole joins the municipalities of Tygerberg and Oostenberg, Emfuleni, George, Hermanus, KwaDukuza (formerly Ballito Bay and Stanger), Klerksdorp, Mafikeng, Potchefstroom, Tzaneen and Witzenberg.
The agreement allows motorists who receive camera fines in these areas to pay their fines at Pick 'n Pay, Shoprite Checkers and Foodworld stores, or on the Internet at easypay.co.za.
Amanda Clark, acting deputy head of the Durban Metro Police, says the partnership gives Durban Metro improved cash flow management through EasyPay`s batch and settlement system.
"A customer can pay the fine at any of the prescribed stores nationally. EasyPay guarantees that Durban Metro will receive the payment within 24 to 48 hours, cutting out the time delays caused through traditional administrative bottlenecks," she says.
EasyPay sales manager Charlie Goodrick says fine payments are being restricted to camera fines while the system is being tested in the retail stores.
"We`re are expecting to go live with paying all fines through easypay.co.za in the near future. Following that, all traffic fines will be able to be paid in the municipalities we have agreements with once the testing phase has been completed," he says.
