SCO has appointed operating systems integration specialist, Three-D Computer Services, an MB Worksoft company, as its sole South African Enterprise II National Support Centre.
Tarantella is the first software to allow companies to access multiple applications through a Web browser. With Tarantella Enterprise II, in particular, SCO has made it possible for customers to access older, host-based systems across the Internet and through a Web interface, thereby protecting investment in these systems.
This feature makes Tarantella Enterprise II attractive to value-added resellers (VARs) and independent software vendors (ISV), who want to extend the life of software solutions they have implemented for their customers.
Three-D MD Mary Harding says her company`s appointment strengthens its position as an integration-centric company and allows Three-D to appoint and work with corporate resellers - a strategy the company has been following since its inception.
"The rapid evolution of IT capabilities presents us with opportunities to move into new markets, extend market share, reduce costs and improve profitability. The move towards e-business represents the most radical opportunity to date," Harding says.
Dave Wilson, regional director for SCO Africa and Middle East, says Three-D`s experience in working with a wide range of operating environments - Unix, Windows NT, Novell - was key in its appointment.
"Tarantella Enterprise II needs a depth of support that implies investment in skills and support infrastructure," says Wilson. "Three-D is a long-standing, competent, highly professional services company which will do the product justice."
Organisations have long sought the benefits of a universal client to simplify access to all critical systems, says Harding.
"Because some of these systems are on Windows NT, some on Unix and a growing number are Web-based, this has seemed an impossible dream. Tarantella Enterprise II goes a long way toward offering the universal access small to medium-sized organisations want."
While Three-D is Durban-based, as a member of the MB Worksoft group of companies it can offer integration expertise nationally.
"Our telephonic help desk is located in Durban but it`s transparent to users where they are receiving assistance from, and if on-site support is required, we have the manpower available from Three-D itself or from trained engineers based at strategic centres," Harding says.
