Duxbury launches GPRS modem card

Targeting the rapidly expanding corps of mobile communications device users in SA, Duxbury Networking has launched a modem card for users of new-generation general packet radio service (GPRS) PDAs and notebook computers.

The Duxbury GPRS Card is available in two models:

* GPRS 900/1800/1900MHz Triband (Type II).
* Tri-band EGSM 900MHz and DCS 1800 MHz.
* A CS 1900 MHz option is also available.

All are GSM phase 2 and 2+ compliant and may be controlled via AT commands including GSM 07.07 and GSM 07.05. Voice earphone functionality comprises half rate (HR), full rate (FR) and enhanced full rate (EFR) options. Echo cancellation and noise reduction features are standard.

The units facilitate GPRS Internet surfing over eight channels at speeds of up to 85Kbps.

An optional software bundle includes GPRS surfing, voice dialling, SMS, e-mail, fax and a range of data applications.
