In a move to meet the expected increase in demand for VDSL2-based telecommunications services, Duxbury Networking, in association with its principal ZyXEL Communications, has released a comprehensive range of VDSL2 products, including telephones, Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) modems and cable modems, as well as set-top 'pizza' decoder boxes and similar chassis-based solutions for use with telco and Internet service provider (ISP) services.
According to Andy Robb, chief technology officer at Duxbury Networking, VDSL2 is the newest and most advanced standard of DSL broadband wireline communications, designed to support the deployment of triple play high-speed Internet access, television and telephone services such as voice, video, data, high-definition television (HDTV) and interactive gaming.
“We can expect a wider variety of value-added services ranging from broadband Internet access to bandwidth-consuming video applications to be offered by both telcos and ISPs in South Africa,” says Robb.
“Many are anxious to deliver triple play offerings as value-added services in a bid to gain market share among urban users who will benefit most from the technology.”
Robb expects many of South Africa's service providers to migrate to IP networks to accommodate VDSL2 technologies in the coming years.
