DVT, one of South Africa's leading software development houses, has entered into an agreement with agile application life cycle management specialist Mendix SA, through which it will offer the Mendix Agile Business Platform and related services to its large base of South African customers.
Headquartered in Holland and founded in 2005, Mendix is represented in the US, UK and South Africa, where country manager Gerard van den Houten has made rapid inroads into the local market.
Mendix's core offering is the Agile Business Platform, which helps partners and customers develop, deploy and manage business applications that are easily integrated and adapted in any existing IT and business environment. Concepts such as agile development, model-driven development, rapid prototyping and services-oriented architecture are at the heart of the company's roadmap and product philosophy.
Its platform-based approach to agile and scrum ensures consistent, rapid delivery. The current, consultant-led approach by many companies to agile and scrum means uneven delivery on projects, and an unnecessary dependence on scarce and costly skills. With Mendix, customers can rapidly move beyond the waterfall approach and enjoy the manifold benefits of agile and scrum across a wide range of solutions.
SAP-certified Mendix came out of collaboration between the Technical University Rotterdam and the Erasmus University of Delft. It is headed by Derek Roos, a regular visitor to South Africa.
“Mendix is an international product with an impressive list of blue-chip clients and a reference-able track record,” says Chris Wilkins, CEO of DVT. “We will use the Mendix platform for custom development, when appropriate, and will be able to provide the necessary skills and technical competency to deliver Mendix solutions. Mendix will enhance and speed up our ability to provide custom-built software solutions using agile and scrum techniques.”
Mendix is often the best solution to assist in the delivery of single-point-of-entry Web solutions, legacy consolidation and integration, ERP add-ons, and transactional systems. DVT is already working with key clients on Mendix solutions and intends to become the premier provider of Mendix skills in South Africa.
DVT, which has built a critical mass of agile and scrum skills and embeds them in its software development approach, will be able to provide Mendix solutions out of both its Cape and Gauteng offices.
“We are impressed with the overall capability and depth of skills demonstrated by DVT,” says Van den Houten. “We have no doubt this partnership will help us entrench our presence in South Africa.”
Mendix has a broad customer base, including ABN-Amro, GE, Kwik-Fit, Kuehne& Nagel, TNT, Mammoet and many more.
