First Technology and Microsoft yesterday announced a new range of locally developed e-business aimed at the SME market.

The software range, developed by First Technology on the Microsoft platform, includes JiT VCM (Value Chain Management), an e-procurement software solution, and JiT Publisher, a software package enabling companies and individuals without HTML, Java or other coding skills to a Web site.

JiT VCM also incorporates e-procurement functionality, allowing businesses to create a private marketplace whereby customers and suppliers are able to interact.

[VIDEO]"We have successfully brought e-procurement within the reach of small and medium enterprises by offering JiT VCM as an ASP option to those organisations who prefer not to purchase the software," says Clark Coetzee, MD of the i-Development Division at First Technology.

"JiT VCM is written on a Microsoft platform using Sequel 2000 as the database, providing easy desktop integration. First Technology developed this software with South African businesses in mind, taking into account the country`s constraints and business requirements, while incorporating international best practices."

Furniture retailer Joshua Doore is one of several early adopters of the JiT VCM system, and reportedly expects savings to reach R7 million this year. Other users include Discovery Health, Medi-Clinic and Boston City Campus which have all used JiT VCM for the procurement of products from First Technology.

Coetzee says there are now 125 organisations actively buying through the JiT VCM marketplace.

JiT VCM is offered as either a full software package or an ASP offering. Other aspects of the new offering include an e-marketing solution, JiT ePostman, and JiT Freight, an automation solution targeted at the transport industry.
