After a successful debut last year, the African Information Technology Exhibitions and Conferences (AITEC) is gearing up for the second Mombasa Computer, Communications and Office Equipment exhibition to be held at the Jubilee Hall, Mombasa this October. AITEC Mombasa 2000 has been scheduled to start on the 12th to 14th of October with the organisers predicting a 50% growth compared to last year.
The three-day event will bring together information technology companies from Mombasa, Nairobi and South Africa. Already 21 companies have confirmed their participation taking up 75% of the available exhibition space. The companies include iKenya.com, Form-Net Africa, Inter-Connect, Cresent Computers, Infinity Resources, Onix Computers, Handy Cellular and Mobile Connections. International participation will include Hewlett Packard, Transtel, PentaCom and Clearline all from South Africa.
According to Mr Andrew Karanja, the Marketing Manager at AITEC, the show is growing in both size and importance. Information Technology has become an integral part of everybody`s life including those living at the coast. That is why our debut in Mombasa was an instant success with over 34 exhibitors including one international. We are seeing growth in this years show, with more than two months to go 65% of the prime area has already been taken up and four international companies have confirmed participation, Mr Karanja said.
The International participation is expected to encourage local participants to up the quality of their service and product offerings in order to compete. Analysts say eCommerce will be a major feature in this year`s show as local companies access the impact of the electronic age on their businesses and look for cost saving solutions from the IT industry.
The event will light up the Coastal region in terms of availability of information technology products and services with a major drive on Internet technologies. Mombasa and the coastal region has a lot to offer in terms of technological innovation and the only way to display this talent and potential is by having a show of AITEC quality, Mr Karanja said. And you cannot ignore the fact that companies have found efficiency in IT and a lot of them will come to look for working solutions for their various business problems, he continued. Companies exhibiting at the show have promised to display the latest in their range of products.
Like last year`s event, the exhibition will focus on corporate business solutions for both large organisations and small and medium sized enterprises, emphasising attendance by high high-level decision-makers. Several business-oriented concepts have been introduced into the show. These include the Enterprise Solution Forum, a three-day series of presentations on such themes as Financial Software, Hospitality Software, eCommerce solutions, Internet Technologies, Power Protection, Virus Protection and Storage Systems
