The E-Net Africa 2001 networking technologies conference and exhibition will take place in SA on 26, 27, 28 August.
This was announced by Enterasys Networks which will host the event in Johannesburg in association with its alliance partner in SA, Duxbury Networking.
Martin May, regional director of Enterasys Networks SA, says the conference, the first Enterasys event of its kind to be held in Africa, will feature a line up of international and local industry specialists who will provide delegates with strategic views of the future of networking -- from both global and local perspectives.
The keynote speaker is US-based John Roese, the co-author of the new IEEE 802.1x standard for network security.
Roese is a technical visionary, responsible for Enterasys` strategic direction. He oversees the development of the company`s technology architectures, including comprehensive quality of service, security, management and transport services. Additionally, Roese is an active member of the IEEE, IETF and other industry-standards bodies.
May says the E-Net Africa 2001 conference will address the "big questions" facing most companies in the next two to three years, and the significance of the issues surrounding them.
"Two of the key areas of focus of the conference will be network mobility and network security," says May.
"Wireless networks are going to dominate the minds of businessmen and women because they are at the heart of the new `information dependent` business world that is ever encroaching upon us.
"Delegates to the conference will be given an insight into the importance of `mobility` in the light of this and other global developments."
May says speakers will explain how businesses can exploit the performance of new generation networks with more people, in more geographical locations, giving them access to information at anytime of the night or day.
He says if mobility is a trend that will enable business to do more, then security is a threat and an issue that businesses will have to face.
"At E-Net Africa 2001, security will come under the spotlight in a number of the presentations. Security is fast becoming the number one concern of all CIOs and network managers."
