Nokia activates gaming portal
Nokia has finally activated their gaming portal, "N-Gage", reports Gameplanet.
Nokia had planned to launch last year, but last minute testing headaches forced a delay.
The majority of the large mobile software studios around the world have already signed up to develop games for the service.
Online games still untapped
More than seven out of 10 US consumers now play video games of some sort, according to The NPD Group's recent "Online Gaming 2008" report. Of these, more than half say they play games online, says eMarketer.
Two-thirds of US heads of households play video games, according to the Entertainment Software Association's "Essential Facts About The Computer and Video Game Industry" report. The ESA says that more than half of "frequent" gamers play online.
"Despite the buzz in the industry regarding online gaming, it is still relatively small compared to offline gaming," said Anita Frazier, an analyst at NPD Group. "There is still a large, untapped market for gaming in general and online gaming in particular."
