Early bird registration for COBIT 4.1 Convention

Johannesburg, 12 Jun 2007

Registration has now opened for the ISACA SA COBIT User Convention and Conference to be held at Montecasino from 10 to 12 September 2007.

"We have a great line-up of international speakers and have once again managed to keep the pricing extremely competitive," said Max Blecher, President of the South African Chapter of ISACA.

"Corporate governance is very high on the agenda of boards, CEOs and business executives, and it is really important that CIOs and IT professionals understand what their IT governance responsibilities are," said Blecher, who is also a member of the IT Governance Committee of the international IT Governance Institute (ITGI), based in Chicago, USA.

"COBIT is internationally recognised as the overarching framework for implementing IT governance because of its strong ties to corporate governance and its business-oriented approach. It has been broadly used to ensure IT compliance for Sarbanes Oxley and the ITGI will shortly be issuing a guide on implementing IT controls for Basel II.

"We are very pleased to be hosting the first COBIT steering committee meeting on the African continent. This will bring eight global COBIT experts to our shores in support of our COBIT User Convention and Conference," continued Blecher. "Key international speakers and topics will include:

* Gary Hardy: COBIT 4.1 (Director, IT Winners, founding member of COBIT steering committee, Technical Co-ordinator ITGI)
* John Thorp: Val IT (President, The Thorp Network and Consulting Fellow, Fujitsu Consulting)
* Urs Fisher: COBIT for Basel II (Head, IT Risk Management Security and Internal Controls, Swiss Life Group)
* Jimmy Heschl: COBIT mappings to other standards (Senior Manager IT Advisory, KPMG Austria)
* Robert Stroud: ITIL V3 (ITSM and IT Governance Evangelist, Computer Associates).

"This year's event promises to be even more successful than last year, where more than 225 delegates attended from leading organisations across a number of industry sectors."

Convention and conference attendance packages provide for maximum flexibility, while ensuring unbelievably low prices. The 'early bird' registration deadline ends on 29 June 2007, with registration options commencing from as little as R1 912.50 (terms and conditions apply). In addition, there are a number of conference membership specials, where delegates that are not yet members of ISACA may save hundreds of rands on ISACA membership.

The preliminary conference programme and registration forms may be downloaded at http://www.isaca.org.za/page.asp?Id=6&page=Downloads, and readers may contact Juanita Truter, the ISACA Administrator, on (011) 469 4352 or admin@isaca.org.za for further information.
