Earthquake triggers cloud adoption

Stuff.

IDC research country manager Ullrich Loeffler says the 'Kiwi spirit' was evident as the business community came together to help one another in the wake of the disaster, which would inevitably result in an increased focus on business continuity.

Many companies displaced from the Christchurch CBD might never again re-invest in their own IT systems, he adds.

"I think a lot of them will consider the cloud option. For businesses that have had their offices or systems destroyed, you would have to think whether you invested to build up your own infrastructure again."

According to Experian QAS, Loeffler says organisations tend to turn to cloud computing and hosted solutions when they need to refresh their IT systems.

Last month, Richard Talbot, solutions director at recruitment company Randstad, told the New Zealand Herald the country is set to see its cloud computing mature over the course of this year.
