Easirun appointed distributor for Danish food industry management tool

Johannesburg, 04 Oct 2000

Easirun has been appointed as the exclusive Southern African distributor for LEC, one of Denmark`s largest suppliers of IT services to the Danish agricultural and food-processing sectors. The distributorship allows Easirun to market and support NAVImeat, an integrated management tool for the efficient monitoring and control of business processes aimed at increasing competitiveness and earnings for organisations in the meat industry.

NAVIMeat, which has been installed at Eskort Bacon Co-Operative in Natal, at Colcom in Zimbabwe and is currently being installed at Karan Beef in Johannesburg, is expected to gain significant market share throughout the rest of South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Lesotho, Swaziland and Mozambique.

LEC is part of the Maersk Group, Denmark`s largest IT supplier, and is the main supplier of IT solutions to a range of companies that generate 98 per cent of the turnover within the Danish meat industry. This includes all the major slaughterhouses and meat producers in Denmark, such as Danish Crown, Tulip International, Steff-Houlberg, Ess-Food and the Federation of Danish Pig Producers and Slaughterhouses.

Easirun, the leading Navision Solution Centre (NSC) in South Africa, is a subsidiary of the JSE-listed UCS Group Limited, an investment holding company for a group of information technology (IT) businesses focussed on the provision of , software development and turnkey IT-enabled business solutions.

Doug Arnold, sales executive at Easirun, said: "Most of LEC`s turnover stems from the meat and general food-processing industries, whilst another significant part of its turnover comes from the primary farming industry. This competence, which LEC has accumulated as a long-term supplier to the highly efficient and profitable Danish meat industries, forms the basis for the development of the Navimeat solution".

"The meat industry is characterised by complex daily decision-making which has significant financial consequences. Many companies within the meat industry operate on marginal earnings based on the large-volume production of fresh products as well as finished products. Marginal earnings, frequent shortages of raw materials, fierce competition and excess capacity in some areas call for dynamic and flexible companies that are able to make decisions within very short time limits.

"NAVImeat is ideal for organisations operating under these conditions as it is a tailor-made computer system for handling the industry`s information and production management," he said.

Based on Navision Financials - one of the most widely-used financial and administrative systems in the world - NAVImeat includes modules on calculations, slaughter planning, settlement, export management, data capture, production control, process planning, order and dispatch, EDI, and stock management.
