eBay to offer BI service
eBay, which runs a data warehouse for internal business intelligence (BI) analytics, is considering offering its product as a Web service to interested companies, reports Computerworld.
This follows a move by Amazon.com, which built its family of Amazon Web Services for in-house use but is now marketing them to outside customers.
eBay has built a 5-petabyte data warehouse that adds 50TB of new data each day and is looking to enable business analysts to build their own virtual data marts.
Microsoft extends BI market reach
Microsoft released SQL Server, Kilimanjaro, at its BI conference in Seattle, says Ovum.com.
The decision marks Microsoft's move towards enterprise deployments to put it on a more competitive footing with IBM, Oracle and SAP.
Microsoft hopes Kilimanjaro will support the needs of end-users by leveraging the capabilities of SQL Server and the ubiquity of Excel.
