Johannesburg, 16 Mar 2000

eCompany, exclusive distributor of GetThere travel software in Southern Africa, has entered into a strategic alliance with American Express SA (Amex) enabling Amex to distribute GetThere products into corporations.

GetThere provides online travel reservation capabilities by connecting to travel reservation systems for free, up-to-date travel information, including real-time flight availability, hotel and car rental information for worldwide destinations 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week.

"GetThere enables the individual to choose and book exactly which flight, hotel or car hire he wants, and allows the travel agent time to concentrate on customer service and the issue and delivery of the ticket. In addition, it provides companies that have large travel budgets with a highly efficient and controllable means of facilitating travel arrangements," says Sheldon Cohen, CEO of eCompany.

Technology provided by GetThere, combined with American Express Travel, part of the Tourvest stable, provides customised packages with a variety of value-added benefits and services to corporate and leisure markets.

GetThere acts as a user-friendly interface to most Central Reservation Systems (CRS) throughout the world. It enables the individual on the Internet to communicate with a CRS to book a flight to any destination in the world. Through the GetThere service, clients have access to over 500 airlines, 40 000 hotels and 50 car rental companies worldwide.

The eCompany travel platform offers a series of tools to travel agents, corporations and portals, who wish to take advantage of the Internet to enter the e-travel market space. eCompany has already enabled a number of country`s leading travel agents and portals, including American Express Travel, Ananzi and Getaway.co.za.
