EDS Africa selects CA`s Unicenter TNG for renascence service for distributed desktop management

Computer Associates Africa (CA Africa) and EDS Africa today announced that CA`s award-winning Unicenter TNG enterprise management solution will be a key component of EDS` Renascence service for distributed desktop management.

According to Paul Giraud, Renascence operations manager, EDS selected Unicenter TNG for its feature-rich functionality and seamless integration. "Unicenter TNG will form an integral part of Renascence," Giraud said.

EDS Africa aims to win a major share of the distributed systems management desktop market with Renascence, which is squarely targeted at this strategic and fast-growing segment of the IT outsourcing market. Analysts project the value of this market segment to exceed R11 billion over the next five years.

Wade Gomes, national sales manager at CA Africa, said that EDS will initially use Unicenter TNG for desktop, storage and applications management.

"Desktop management is a complex, multi-faceted discipline which requires robust tools and strong methodologies to keep life-cycle ownership costs to a minimum," said Gomes. "Unicenter TNG`s enterprise-class management solution set, combined with EDS` outstanding outsourcing engagement practices, present global corporate customers with an ideal method for controlling PC expenditures and eliminating operational headaches."

According to Giraud, the EDS Renascence service comprises six modules for distributed systems management: network and systems management, customer administration, planning and architecture, procurement, field support, and customer support. EDS will provide one or all of these modules, customising them for the client where necessary.

"Renascence has been widely implemented around the world, managing more than 600,000 desktops in 19 countries," Giraud said. "Here in South Africa, we have established the ninth Renascence management centre and we believe the implementation here will be the most successful so far.

"The Renascence service will enable our clients to concentrate their efforts and investments on their core competencies, while they give the management of their distributed IT resources to the experts," he explained. "Together with partners such as Computer Associates Africa, with whom we have a strong relationship, we are able to provide a service that is unequalled in its ability to give clients a customisable, enterprise-wide solution to align their distributed systems and client-server strategies with their business goals."

By automatically managing the enterprise computing environment, Unicenter TNG optimizes the availability of business-critical services to help reduce the total cost of ownership. Enterprise assets--including the Internet/intranet and even non-IT equipment such as automated teller machines--can be managed based on the business processes they support. Comprehensive and integrated out-of-the-box functionality, and an intuitive Real World Interface. and self-learning, predictive neural network Neugent technology make Unicenter TNG easy to deploy and use, resulting in a rapid return on investment that increases over time.

This announcement follows the international Universal Enterprise Agreement (UEA) between the parent companies of EDS Africa and CA Africa, which was recently extended to include Africa. The UEA allows both companies and their respective client bases world-wide to benefit from the joint skills, expertise and products they can offer through strategic alliances and partnering efforts.
