EDS, Microsoft, Intel to reveal IT refresh findings at Gartner Symposium ITxpo

Companies join forces to answer the two most elusive refresh questions
Johannesburg, 19 Oct 2004

EDS, Microsoft and Intel reveal that postponing desktop and refreshes beyond three years is not an effective enterprise cost-cutting . The companies will discuss the findings of a recently completed IT refresh study at Gartner Symposium ITxpo in Orlando. Gartner did not conduct and does not endorse the findings of the study.

The study explores the hard and soft costs associated with desktop and software refresh cycles, and uncovers the answers to two elusive questions: how often should companies refresh their PCs and what method of refresh should be used? The study compares three- and five-year refreshes and presents key , including:

a. The impact on hardware, software and support costs
b. The bottom line effect on total cost of ownership (TCO)
c. The difference between staggered (phased) and forklift (all-at-once) refreshes
d. The effects on downtime, lost data and security breaches
e. The effect on employee productivity
f. The impact of using automated deployment tools

Representatives from EDS, Microsoft and Intel will present their findings at Gartner Symposium ITxpo in Orlando, Florida on Wednesday, 20 October 2004. The presentation will be in the Southern Hemisphere II Room in the Dolphin Hotel from 5.45pm to 6.45pm.
