EDS, NTT Communications sign outsourcing agreement

NTT Com to reduce desktop management costs 30% using EDS Helpdesk service; companies will jointly offer desktop services to Japanese customers
Johannesburg, 08 Oct 2003

EDS today announced a multi-year, helpdesk outsourcing support contract with NTT Com to design, implement and manage a user-friendly helpdesk solution to optimise NTT Communications (NTT Com`s) desktop environment.

EDS Helpdesk Services will include integration and support for the desktop computing environment, remote management, system support and Web-based self-help services for more than 15 000 desktops in Japan. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

"Partnering with EDS gives us access to industry-leading IT services, solutions and expertise that will help NTT Com more efficiently manage our internal IT systems and processes," said Ikuo Washiyama, general manager of IT Management Services Business Division, NTT Com. "Moreover, NTT Com will be able to realise significant cost savings by leveraging EDS`s best-in-class approach to our IT environment."

The helpdesk contract is a follow-up to the business alliance agreement announced earlier this year between the two companies. The business alliance agreement was established with the aim of offering IT and communications services to businesses in Japan. As part of this approach, NTT Com plans to bundle EDS`s Helpdesk Services with their communications related infrastructure capabilities and jointly go to market with EDS. The two companies will offer a set of robust and value-added helpdesk and desktop related services to new and existing customers in Japan.

"Optimising IT environments for leading organisations around the world is what EDS does best," said Douglas Fowler, vice-president, EDS Japan. "We`re very pleased to continue our relationship with NTT Com to deliver best-in-class services and solutions to their organisation. We also look forward to leveraging each other`s strengths and capabilities to provide helpdesk related services to targeted businesses in this market."
