EDS South Africa becomes SAVANT founder partner

Johannesburg, 08 May 2003

EDS South Africa, the regional subsidiary of the global IT services giant, has officially joined SAVANT, the ICTE (information and communications technology and electronic) sector branding and marketing campaign, as a founder partner.

With an international base of around 35 000 government and corporate clients in 60 countries, EDS is well placed to support the marketing of locally developed innovation, skills, products and services around the world.

Founded in 1962, EDS pioneered the IT services industry, and remains one of its leading players. Using the principles of leveraging and economies of scale, EDS seeks to deliver value to its clients through providing them with best practice methodologies to support their businesses through information technology.

EDS`s services are delivered through four lines of business, including: high impact management consulting through its subsidiary AT Kearney; enterprise architecture and applications though its Solutions Consulting division; infrastructure management and business process outsourcing through Operations Solutions; and Product Lifecycle Management.

EDS`s decision to join SAVANT as a founding partner has been welcomed by the SAVANT executive committee as well as the minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Alec Erwin.

"The SAVANT initiative is founded upon the accurate reflection of South Africa`s inherent exportable value, innovation and services. We welcome the inclusion of EDS South Africa as the latest founder partner and contributor. The company`s extensive network of government and corporate clientele will add tremendous value to the process of establishing SAVANT as an internationally recognised ICTE growth and development campaign," says Erwin.

According to EDS South Africa, CEO, Michael Minassian, the company has decided to actively participate in the SAVANT initiative largely because of the value attached to being a part of the growth and development of the South African ICTE sector, and also because of the opportunity to be at the forefront of global trade and export links.

"Our core business is to bring benefit our government and corporate communities alike by providing innovative solutions and services. The SAVANT campaign represents an ideal opportunity through which we can add value to the growth of SA`s competitive and vibrant ICTE industries. The successful penetration of global markets and placement of this country`s applied innovation on the world map can only be achieved through a collaborative effort. An initiative supported by government and driven by industry is the ideal vehicle," says Minassian.

"EDS has a far-reaching strategy regarding the use of low cost, high skill regions like SA in its own business," he adds. "As a multinational that is already using this model, we are confident we can help drive the whole SAVANT initiative forward."
