eEye Digital Security's Blink endpoint vulnerability prevention system named 2005 Readers' Choice award winner by Windows IT Pro

Johannesburg, 21 Sep 2005

SecureData, a member of the JSE-listed ERP.com Group and the southern African enterprise partner for eEye Digital Security, today announced that Blink, eEye's award-winning endpoint security software for Microsoft Windows-based systems, was named as the winner in the Security Intrusion Detection and Prevention Software category of the 2005 Windows IT Pro Readers' Choice Awards fourth annual contest announced on 1 September.

The most powerful and comprehensive endpoint security software product on the market today, Blink delivers more layers of protection than any other endpoint platform, providing businesses with complete security for their borderless networks while ensuring business continuity.

Readers were asked to vote on their product preferences in 12 broad technology categories. More than 1 700 readers chose the best among more than 750 products and services. "Windows IT Pro readers are the most knowledgeable people in the market with regard to the best values in technology products and services," commented Kim Paulsen, group publisher of Penton Media's Windows IT Pro Group.

"We've done extensive research among our readers, and know that they are the ones who make the buying decisions on behalf of their organisations. The Windows IT Pro Readers' Choice Awards give IT professionals the opportunity to voice their opinions and give the leading technology companies the recognition they deserve.

"The Windows IT Pro Readers' Choice Awards are highly coveted in the IT industry because our readers, who are the buyers and users of these products, are the ones who choose the winners," continued Paulson. "These awards are the ultimate acclamation an IT company can earn from its peers in the IT community."

"The continued recognition our products receive from the industry serves as a tribute to the entire eEye team. An award such as this exemplifies the integrity of our products as well as our strong customer and partner relationships," added Firas Bushnaq, eEye's co-founder and CEO. "We are honoured to have Blink receive this award from such a respected audience with real-world experience."

This is the second award eEye has received from Windows IT Pro readers within the last year. In October 2004, eEye's Retina Network Security Scanner was selected as Windows IT Pro magazine's 2004 Readers' Choice Best Security Scanner Award. eEye's integrated family of vulnerability management solutions helps IT and security professionals confidently safeguard their valuable digital assets. Working in conjunction with popular tools such as firewalls and intrusion detection systems, eEye's products include: Retina Network Security Scanner, REM Security Management Console, Iris Network Traffic Analyser, SecureIIS Web Server Protection, and Blink Endpoint Vulnerability Prevention System.

Blink

Designed to be implemented on individual assets such as servers, PCs and laptops, Blink is the first endpoint product to combine multiple layers of security technologies to protect enterprises from zero-day attacks that leverage yet unknown vulnerabilities within enterprise networks. This comprehensive security solution allows enterprises to defer patching vulnerable machines until regularly scheduled maintenance cycles, thereby saving millions of dollars in business disruption and the associated IT resource drain caused by "panic" patching.

Additionally, Blink eliminates the problem of so-called "socially engineered" security threats in which hackers trick individuals into downloading malware or otherwise making their own machines vulnerable to attack. As a result, Blink uniquely protects assets from vulnerabilities, as opposed to only thwarting attacks.
