EI call centres to be downsized

Canada is moving to consolidate its Employment Insurance processing and call centres which means that some will be reduced to a barebones operation, reports CBS News.

The Public Service Alliance of Canada, which represents Service Canada employees, says it obtained an e-mail suggesting the centres in Sydney and Glace Bay, Montague, and Vancouver will all but close.

Jeannie Baldwin, VP of the Public Service Alliance of Canada, said Service Canada employees have received an e-mail that says a reduction in the size of those offices will occur over the next three years, states Daily Business Buzz.

She estimates that from 60 to 100 employees will be laid off or offered positions in larger centres.
