Electronic Arts acquires KlickNation
IT World reveals.
Electronic Arts, based in Redwood City, California, acquired PopCap Games, a Seattle, Washington-based provider of games for mobile phones, tablets, PCs and social network sites, earlier this year. It also acquired Playfish, a creator of games for social networks, in 2009.
Business Journal says KlickNation will be folded into EA's BioWare label and will operate as a new BioWare Social unit, headed by Mark Otero, KlickNation's co-founder.
“KlickNation's expertise in building innovative and compelling role-playing games for social platforms makes them a seamless tuck-in with the BioWare team at Electronic Arts,” says Ray Muzyka, senior VP and GM of the BioWare label.
Three-year-old KlickNation develops games for social platforms like Facebook, that users can play with their friends. The games are free to play, and users can pay to upgrade.
