Leading South African moving company, Elliott International has utilised Compuware SA`s network management and application performance expertise in an effort to more effectively manage its local network as well as prepare for the deployment of a new logistics application.
Compuware conducted a two-week audit of Elliott`s network at the company`s head office in Midrand, Johannesburg.
By deploying its network and application monitoring tool NetworkVantage, Compuware pinpointed bottlenecks in the system and determined what areas carried the most traffic, assessing the company`s bandwidth and network resources.
Says Linda K"usel, IT manager at Elliott International: "Although we were still within our allowed parameters, it was helpful to know what areas were carrying more traffic than anticipated, which in turn empowers us to address the problem before it becomes critical."
Importantly, Compuware also determined what impact the future deployment of a .NET application, which will cater for logistics and household consignment purposes, would have on Elliott`s network.
"The application will be rolled out throughout Africa and includes a mobile interface which will enable people to access it via their handhelds. This is why we had to determine whether we had sufficient bandwidth."
Compuware recommended the re-assessment of some of Elliott`s network connections, which will assist the company to sufficiently prepare for the application`s deployment.
"Our NetworkVantage tool not only resolves and minimises the occurrence of network performance problems but enables companies to effectively manage the performance of their .NET applications," comments Caroline Wyly, product manager at Compuware SA.
NetworkVantage was a finalist in `Network Product of the Year` category for the Computing Industry Awards 2002 and is described by leading research group, Enterprise Management Associates, to be "the most efficient in terms of out of the box time value", after evaluating 13 toolsets.
"Compuware SA has provided us with quality services as well as competitive pricing. We are implementing their recommendations, which will enable us to optimise our resources while saving on bandwidth," concludes K"usel.
