EM&I Business Intelligence, a leading provider of data management and business intelligence solutions based in Johannesburg, South Africa, hosts a popular Data Warehouse Forum, convened by Knowledge Integration Dynamics (KID). The keynote speakers, industry specialist Harvey Jones Systems` MD Keith Jones, and Edgars Consolidated Stores` (Edcon), Calvin Low, will present a case study of Microsoft and ProClarity business intelligence, innovating across the enterprise.
The forum will begin at 3pm on July 3 at EM&I`s new building in Woodmead, with a presentation by messrs. Low and Jones. The presentation will deliver a case study, explaining the rationale to change from the legacy system, the problems encountered and why the move was desired, as well as explaining some of the principles Edcon wanted to adopt in the new data warehouse. The business benefits and innovations resulting from the new system will also be discussed.
Edcon runs the largest Microsoft SQL Server-based data warehouse in the southern hemisphere. It incorporates eight brands and over 570 retail stores in South Africa and neighboring countries. While the group strategy remains anchored by further development of the core businesses, improving productivity and cost management, 2002 saw the implementation of a growth strategy beyond the fashion arena. The group focus remains retail, with expansion into general merchandise (Super Mart) and books and stationery (CNA).
