Embarcadero Technologies, the provider of application and database lifecycle management solutions, has announced the latest versions of DBArtisan and SQL Debugger for building, managing and troubleshooting business database infrastructures.
DBArtisan 7.0 includes support enhancements for major database platforms, with particular focus on IBM DB2 Universal Database (UDB) and Oracle, solidifying its position as the most complete cross-platform solution for maintaining databases. With SQL Debugger for IBM UDB, database administrators (DBAs) and developers can now diagnose and fix problematic server-side code and ad hoc SQL across all major databases.
"DBArtisan`s cross-platform functionality is key for efficient database administration," says Alan Raubenheimer, CEO of Embarcadero Africa. "With DBArtisan, we can have DBAs trained in Microsoft SQL Server managing the day-to-day operations of our Oracle databases, increasing the efficiency of the department without sacrificing performance."
Embarcadero`s more than 30 enhancements to DBArtisan 7.0 allow for the administration of more complex database environments by delivering up-to-date support for the current releases of Oracle, IBM DB2, Microsoft SQL Server and Sybase. DBArtisan 7.0 also has features that simplify management of multi-platform database infrastructures. By providing a single point of entry for all major databases, DBArtisan 7.0 in combination with SQL Debugger significantly reduces the time and costs of managing multiple databases and boosts productivity by allowing users to standardise on a single solution.
The new features of DBArtisan 7.0 and Embarcadero SQL Debugger include:
* DB2 System-Level Navigation - DBArtisan 7.0 provides an intelligent Explorer interface to navigate DB2 servers and allows for rapid database creation, configuration and editing through a single interface.
* More than 20 new Oracle support enhancements - Oracle professionals will find that DBArtisan 7.0 extends their administration abilities when working with Oracle9i, Large Object (LOB) and XML datatypes, and SQL code. Also, a host of new analytic and performance-related utilities have been introduced to target prevention and elimination of database bottlenecks.
* Increased ease-of-use - DBArtisan`s new SQL Editor and Formatter provide: - Syntax highlighting for PL/SQL, HTML, XML, Java and other languages; - PL/SQL code beautification and user controlled display options.
* DB2 UDB Debugging - the introduction of the first third-party DB2 UDB debugger completes Embarcadero`s cross-platform debugging support while adding features such as performance profiling and the ability to view and step into code dependencies.
SQL Debugger is a SQL troubleshooting module that fully integrates with DBArtisan or Rapid SQL. It is the first third-party debugger used to locate, diagnose and fix problematic server-side code and ad hoc SQL across Oracle, Sybase, Microsoft SQL Server, and IBM DB2 Universal Database.
"DBArtisan is the ideal database administration solution for managing Oracle, Sybase, Microsoft SQL Server, and IBM DB2 Universal databases," says Raubenheimer. "Its rich feature set helps database professionals maximise the availability, performance and security of databases throughout the business. Also, it enables DBAs concurrently to manage multiple databases from a single graphical console, creating productivity gains for experienced and novice database professionals."
