Sybase customers serious about performance monitoring need no longer reactively wade through reams of sp_sysmon printouts to root out database performance issues. Embarcadero Technologies` performance monitoring and management tool, Performance Center, now also supports Sybase databases from version 11.9.2 to version 12.5, along with support for Oracle.
Performance Center features a graphical health index that monitors parameters set by database administrators and alerts them via methods such as e-mail and pager, before the system becomes overloaded. The health index allows proactive monitoring of crucial performance indicators such as memory management, CPU utilisation, disk space utilisation, user and application statistics and other system resources.

Database administrators have all the vital performance indicators available to them in a single set of graphics that allow them to drill down and interrogate the underlying causes of the displayed results.
There are a host of performance criteria for database administrators to monitor. The health index allows them to establish which of those criteria are important to their current or most important task with the database and these can then be monitored and alerts sounded if they are exceeded.
