In an effort to support the ever-increasing information requirements of the digital economy, enterprise storage specialist, EMC, and database and ERP software vendor, Oracle, have announced the expansion of an alliance which has been in existence since 1995.
Having been previously involved in a number of joint certification and technical programmes, Hugh Wason, country manager of EMC SA, says the two companies will further integrate their respective technologies to deliver Internet-infrastructures to support e-business applications. "In addition, Oracle will form an EMC Strategic Business Unit (SBU) and a Joint Development Centre, each of which will dedicate full-time engineering and alliance resources to optimise and integrate Oracle8i and EMC Enterprise Storage systems and software.
"By working together to create joint architectures, configurations and ongoing operational guidelines for Oracle and EMC technologies, we simplify for joint customers the implementation and management of highly available Internet-infrastructures for e-business solutions," says Wason.
"The tight integration of Oracle8i and EMC Enterprise Storage systems and software provides an information infrastructure that will provide high levels of availability, performance and protection. The creation of an EMC SBU, and the resulting e-business initiatives, will allow new and existing customers to take full advantage of the combined efforts of our engineering organisations to make their businesses competitive in the digital economy," he adds.
Michael S. Rocha, senior vice president of Oracle`s Platform Technologies Division, says, "In today`s Internet economy, downtime is not an option. If an e-commerce site is not available, customers and market share are lost immediately.
"EMC and Oracle are recognised as providing highly available Internet infrastructures for e-businesses and, by further integrating our technologies and developing best-practices implementation models, we are able to help joint customers to build or transition into an e-business in the most effective way possible."
