EMC appoints John Roese as Chief Technology Officer

EMC Corporation (NYSE:EMC) today announced that 20-year IT industry veteran John Roese has joined the company as Chief Technology Officer. Reporting to Jeremy Burton, Executive Vice-President of Product Operations and Marketing, Roese will play a key role in shaping EMC's technology strategy as the company embarks on its next phase of growth and leadership across three of the most transformative trends in the history of IT - cloud, big data and trusted IT.

Burton said: "John brings to EMC a unique blend of experience spanning the entire breadth of IT systems, from silicon all the way up through networking, storage, servers and virtualisation. In addition, he's directed product development in enterprise, carrier and consumer markets. At heart, John is a true technologist, but he is also a proven strategist and general manager with extraordinary vision and operational expertise within very large, complex organisations. I am thrilled to welcome John to EMC."

Jeff Nick, who has served as EMC's Chief Technology Officer for the last eight years, has transitioned to a new CTO role reporting to Paul Maritz, EMC's Chief Strategist, focused on big data and emerging applications initiatives.

Roese, with more than 20 years of IT industry leadership experience and 20 granted and pending patents, was most recently Senior Vice-President and General Manager of Huawei's North American R&D organisation. He also served as the executive leader of Huawei's Enterprise Global Competency Center, which provides enterprise technology innovation and incubation as well as sales, marketing and operations support for Huawei's Enterprise field sales and marketing teams worldwide. Prior to Huawei, he was CTO of Nortel, the senior technology and R&D executive globally for the corporation, with functional responsibility for an R&D staff of 12 000 and an annual budget of $1.7 billion. Prior to Nortel, he was a CTO at Broadcom Corporation and the CTO, Chief Marketing Officer and Chief Information Security Officer of Enterasys Networks. Roese started his career at Cabletron Systems, where he grew within the company, ultimately becoming the global CTO.

Roese is also founding partner of ICT Advisory Group, an accomplished author, frequent keynoter at top industry conferences, and has served on numerous technology company and industry boards.
