Gerhard van der Merwe, country manager of the local arm of international technology business EMC, has resigned.
The company says Van der Merwe has decided to retire after 17 years of service. His tenure will end on 23 January.
EMC's local district sales manager, Servaas Venter, will take over as acting general manager of the South African operation.
According to EMC's statement, it has not yet found a full time replacement for Van der Merwe, but is in the process of sourcing a suitable candidate.
Van der Merwe took up the position as country head of EMC in 2008.
