EMC delivers world-class support for Red Hat Enterprise Linux

EMC and Red Hat invest in Cooperative Resolution Centre

At the recent Red Hat Summit, EMC Corporation (NYSE: EMC) announced it has strengthened support for Red Hat Enterprise Linux deployments by completing interoperability qualification of core EMC platforms including EMC Symmetrix, EMC CLARiiON, EMC Celerra, and EMC Invista.

EMC worked with Red Hat engineers to extensively test Red Hat Enterprise Linux interoperability with EMC's core storage platforms in the EMC E-Lab, the leading industry testing facility of its kind.

E-Lab exhaustively tests interoperability of EMC products with third party products to ensure they will interoperate "out of the box". Products which complete qualification are listed on EMC Interoperability Support Matrices to signify that they are fully-tested and assured compatibility with EMC products.

"Customers want Red Hat Enterprise Linux and as a result, EMC has made large investments to ensure our products work well with it," said Alex Robertson, Technology Solutions Manager at EMC South Africa. "EMC is committed to making sure that its technology is fully interoperable, and to providing the highest level of support to ensure Red Hat Enterprise Linux deployments are seamless."

EMC today also announced two additional investments to enhance support for Red Hat/EMC customers:

Development of the Cooperative Resolution Centre to support joint customers through an enhanced agreement to exchange support readiness training, escalation information, and access to a joint lab to replicate joint customer issues.

CLARiiON CX3 Series FCP, RHEL, Oracle RAC 10g "stack testing" is an advance over normal industry practice to test only pairs of products. From this testing, EMC has produced a whitepaper that describes best practices for running Oracle Database 10g Single Instance and Real Application Clusters (RAC) on a Red Hat Enterprise Linux server with an EMC CLARiiON CX3 storage array. Topics include storage setup and configuration, enterprise setup and configuration, database server setup and configuration, Linux setup and configuration, database setup and configuration, and backup and recovery.

"We have many customers who use Red Hat Enterprise Linux and EMC storage platforms for mission-critical business applications as well as 24/7 operation of their business systems," said Iain Gray, Vice-President of Global Support, Red Hat Inc.

"Our customers demand the highest levels of collaboration and cooperation between our organisations. In addition to performing extensive interoperability testing during the engineering of our products, the formation of the Cooperative Resolution Centre between Red Hat and EMC will create a strong technical support partnership with clear lines of accountability. This will enable Red Hat and EMC to deliver an unsurpassed assurance of business continuity to our joint customers."
