Building on its leadership in the enterprise storage arena and in step with its parent company`s worldwide moves, EMC SA is launching a local professional services operation.According to John Jordaan, manager of the new unit at EMC SA, the division offers customers the combined expertise of highly trained consultants with in-depth knowledge of enterprise storage environments. "The intention is to meet existing demand for the design and implementation of complex heterogeneous storage farms," he says. The new team`s portfolio of services includes:* Architecture and design - establishes the most effective enterprise storage architecture which enables dispersed data to be consolidated and, in so doing, breaks down the walls between mainframes and open systems to allow all the benefits of advanced information management, protection and sharing techniques to be fully realised;* Backup and restore - maximises systems availability while providing scalability, reliability and protection for critical business data in order to improve information management; and* Disaster recovery and information protection - identifies ways in which to minimise the effects of unplanned outages, eliminate delays during routine procedures and protect valuable enterprise data.Based on the company`s own storage logic methodology, EMC Professional Services consultants will assist customers in improving storage management processes and using information for high business impact. Each practice is supported with a five-phase approach - assessment, planning, design, implementation and management - all designed to deliver measurable business benefit. In its initial stages, the South African offering will comprise Keith Goosen in Johannesburg and Muller Wiehahn in Cape Town. "Both bring extensive storage experience to the business unit, will be supplemented as demand grows and will be backed up by the worldwide EMC organisation," says Jordaan.
