EMC positioned in 'leaders' quadrant in 2010 analyst report on enterprise content management

Evaluation in Magic Quadrant based on EMC's completeness of vision and ability to execute.

Johannesburg, 16 Feb 2011

EMC Corporation, the world leader in information infrastructure solutions, has been positioned by Gartner as a 'leader' in its newest Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Content Management+ report.

EMC addresses the enterprise content management (ECM) market with solutions for case management, records management, enterprise capture, customer communications and secure enterprise collaboration.

The Gartner report helps IT and business leaders assess which ECM vendors have the functional capabilities and vision to support their business objectives and requirements, and determine which would make suitable strategic partners. Gartner notes that “ECM initiatives need to extend content governance and best practices across the enterprise. They must link content with business process and outcomes.”

The report also “forecasts that total software revenue in the ECM market will grow at a compound annual rate of 10.1% through 2014. The market's return to stronger growth is expected to start in 2010, with rates climbing to double digits, and worldwide ECM software revenue exceeding $5.7 billion by 2014.”

As described by Gartner, leaders have: “The highest combined scores for ability to execute and completeness of vision. They are doing well and are prepared for the future with a clearly articulated vision. In the context of ECM, they have strong channel partners, presence in multiple regions, consistent financial performance, broad platform support and good customer support. In addition, they dominate in one or more technology or vertical markets.

“Leaders deliver a suite that addresses market demand for direct delivery of the majority of core components, though these are not necessarily owned by them, tightly integrated, unique or best-of-breed in each area. We place more emphasis this year on demonstrated enterprise deployments; integration with other business applications and content repositories; incorporation of Web 2.0 and XML capabilities; and vertical-process and horizontal-solution focus. Leaders should drive market transformation. There are six leaders in this year's Magic Quadrant.”

Inana Nkanza, Country Manager of EMC Southern Africa, says: “Leveraging its more-than-twenty-year Documentum heritage, EMC has continued to set the pace in enterprise content management, and remains deeply committed and focused on winning this market. We believe Gartner's recognition of EMC as a leader is testament to our focus on customer success and continued pursuit of real innovation for satisfying the demanding and evolving requirements of our global customers.”

EMC's comprehensive portfolio of enterprise content management software and services helps organisations get maximum leverage from their information. It includes Documentum xCP, Captiva, Document Sciences and SourceOne platforms to intelligently capture, collaborate, manage, access, distribute and control enterprise information securely anywhere, at any time, from any device.
