Employees using own gadgets 'more productive'

More than half of the companies questioned did not actually know what devices their employees were using, though researchers found that 50% of personal gadgets offered greater functionality than those provided by a firm.

But a number of employers raised concerns about the of having staff access networks via external devices.

Andrew Millard, from Citrix Online, says: “As the boundaries between office hours and personal time become less distinct, managers are losing control of how people work.”

Just a few years ago, the workplace had all the best technology - whether it was a photocopier or a new computer, few consumers could afford to buy the latest kit, says The Telegraph.

Desktop PCs could easily cost thousands. Now, however, it's difficult to spend that amount of money and users, increasingly eager to avoid the standard issue work laptop, are using their own machines wherever possible.

But a number of employers raised concerns about the security of having staff access networks via external devices.
