LogicalOptions has launched an empowerment measuring and strategy development company aimed at helping organisations assess their empowerment status and achieve targets.
EmpowerLogic MD Prince Booi says his company`s key differentiator is the fact that it not only rates a firm on its empowerment status, but also assists with scenario and strategy development.
Using a balanced scorecard approach, based on standards provided by government and the industry charters, it scores clients in four areas: direct empowerment, human resource development, indirect empowerment and residual (social responsibility).
Each subset of these main categories is also graded on a percentage scale and an overall score is derived.
Booi says the software used to analyse clients` data and come up with scenarios and strategies was developed in-house.
"We don`t just rate companies," he says. "We help by developing 'what if` scenarios, and that helps improve the understanding of the rating by highlighting where the companies are wanting. It doesn`t help just to do a rating if there`s a problem and your client doesn`t know where it is."
He says while companies have bought into the empowerment concept, many are waiting for legislation to be passed before they implement programmes.
"But the legislation is coming, if not in the current sitting of Parliament, then next year, probably before March."
