Enhanced traffic management with new gigabit smart switches

Johannesburg, 26 Sep 2008

The Netgear family of ProSafe Gigabit Smart Switches has been expanded with the addition of three new offerings designed to deliver more robust security, enhanced traffic management and availability.

Released by local Netgear distributor Duxbury Networking and targeted at small to medium size enterprises (SMEs) the new additions assist users to meet the challenges of maintaining and growing network infrastructures to support an increasing array of advanced applications, while ramping up security to keep pace with modern requirements.

The new 24- and 48-port Netgear ProSafe Gigabit Smart Switches allow users to gain better control and improve the efficiency of their network infrastructures, while the new ProSafe 'Advanced' Smart Switch provides SMEs with an alternative to more costly, fully-managed switches, says Armand Steffens, Netgear business development manager at Duxbury Networking.

"The high-performance ProSafe Advanced Smart Switch supports a full range of network applications and secures the network without the overhead and complexity associated with fully-managed switches," he explains.

"Easily managed through an intuitive, Web-based GUI, users can save time and resources as well as gain more control over the network while supporting advanced applications."

The unit, which is covered by a lifetime warranty, boasts features such as Access Control Lists, 802.1x port authentication, rate limiting, IGMP snooping and Rapid Spanning Tree.

It is optimised for use with Netgear's ProSafe Network Management Software (NMS100), but can also be managed through a Web console which is able to configure, monitor and troubleshoot all switches on the network.
