Ensuring security for confidential documents

Johannesburg, 13 Mar 2007

Security is of great concern to any office using shared printer access. Many companies address this challenge by installing dedicated desktop printers for confidential documents. Built-in printer security, however, eliminates the need for this expensive - and often cumbersome - solution.

"Printers with built-in security protect confidential documents," says Michael Powell, product manager for Kyocera Mita, one of the world's leading document imaging companies. "Companies no longer have to rely on standalone desktop printers, often with lower speed and less functionality."

Kyocera printers will not release confidential documents until the authorised user inputs the correct PIN code, indicating he is standing by to collect them.

Additional printer security features include the ability to block unwanted users printing to the device through the network. In addition, control panels can be locked so that users cannot modify device settings.

Not only does ECOSYS technology offer superior features, it is also kind to the environment and inexpensive to run. It also ensures network administrators can effectively manage the devices remotely, and boasts built-in account management. "Users can thus be prevented from abusing printers, as limits can be set on the number of prints or copies made," says Powell.
