Entelect Software and NAG magazine are offering a R100 000 cash prize in their '100K Challenge' software development competition.

The challenge involves writing an artificially intelligent program with the ability to play against an opponent in the game of light-bikes - as seen in the movie Tron. NAG and Entelect Software will host a tournament with all the successful entrants, with scheduled play-offs, playing each program against the other in an online environment.

The competition is aimed at coders who have a BSc Computer Science degree or related engineering degree. Part of the prize includes a chance to become part of the Entelect Software team.

Entelect CEO Charles Pritchard says this challenge is for anyone who has a keen interest in software development, and allows the company to see what the field has to offer in terms of younger individuals.

The fact that Entelect Software is investing in the local sector is a huge opportunity, say NAG editor Michael James. This competition not only promises to be thrilling, it could also change someone's life, James says.

The finals of the 100K Challenge will take place at the rAge expo, at the Coca-Cola Dome, in Johannesburg, from 5 to 7 October.
