Enterasys` Dragon Intrusion Defense System earns Common Criteria certification

Government IT security milestone follows recent OSEC and OPSEC certifications
Johannesburg, 28 Oct 2004

Enterasys Networks, the secure networks company, has announced that its Dragon Intrusion Defense System has earned Common Criteria certification, a key milestone for products purchased by federal government organisations.

The Common Criteria evaluation process ensures IT products conform to international security standards. The programme is a partnership between the public and private sectors in the US and Europe designed to help government organisations select commercial IT products that meet strict security requirements. Many enterprises and government agencies only purchase IT security products that are Common Criteria certified.

Dragon`s Common Criteria certification conformance rating is EAL2.

Common Criteria is the latest major certification for Dragon. The award-winning product successfully completed Open Security Evaluation Criteria (OSEC) and OPSECTM (Open Platform for Security) certifications in the third quarter.

"The federal government is a key market for Enterasys` full line of Secure Networks products, services and solutions," said Bob Fortna, vice-president of federal sales for Enterasys. "Common Criteria certification is a significant milestone for Enterasys and we are proud that our Dragon Intrusion Defense System has passed the rigorous requirements. This certification sends a message to our customers and partners that not only is Dragon the industry`s best intrusion defence system, but reconfirms that it meets the stringent standards of federal IT organisations."

Dragon`s comprehensive features minimise network vulnerabilities while delivering significantly improved security. With its unique network-based detection and response capabilities, modular host intrusion-detection components, server management and event management, Dragon provides a reliable solution for detecting and responding to the broad array of attacks present in today`s constantly changing security landscape.

Dragon is a key component in Enterasys` Dynamic Intrusion Response solution that enables the network to automatically identify, locate and mitigate security events. The automated nature of these solutions creates significant value for enterprises by enabling the highest level of Secure Networks availability for critical real-time applications, while reducing IT requirements.

Dragon`s power is enhanced by its ability to combine events on the network with those on the hosts, firewalls, routers, switches, other IDSs and applications, providing complete detection for small, mid-sized and large network environments. With comprehensive analysis and real-time monitoring capabilities, Dragon delivers a higher level of defence to the business-critical IT infrastructure.
