Enterasys named market leader in switch-based security

Enterasys Networks, the Secure Networks company, has announced that after an in-depth review of the strategies and product capabilities of leading network equipment vendors, Forrester Research has identified Enterasys as the market leader in its first Forrester-Wave report on switch-based security.

In the report, "Securing the Campus Network", Forrester analysts examined the business productivity and technology advantages fuelling the trend of replacing isolated network appliances with an integrated campus network security system built around third-generation switches. Forrester says the keys to effective security include:

* A powerful policy engine closely tied to all security devices.
* Integrated network management of security functions on both wireline and wireless network segments.
* Effective authentication, authorisation and intruder detection, including quarantine of unreliable hosts.

According to Forrester: "Enterasys is clearly the market leader. Its network quarantine engine is well ahead of most competitors, and it has done an excellent job with integration of network security functions. Its ability to interoperate with other switches is a big plus, as is its extremely granular control of policy. It has done an excellent job with personalisation, and its switches can view users within the context of their assigned tasks and even take into account the type of device (wireless or wireline) they use to access the network."

The report also says: "The trend is toward integrating all key security functions into a single switching management platform so multiple consoles will no longer be needed. Enterasys Networks` NetSight policy manager is a leader in this trend."
