Enterasys Networks introduces Matrix V2 switch with limited lifetime warranty

Johannesburg, 10 Sep 2003

Enterasys Networks Inc, a global provider of business-driven networks for enterprise customers, today announced the Matrix V2 switch. Designed to deliver advanced networking capabilities to mid-market enterprises, and backed by a limited lifetime warranty, the Matrix V2 provides a powerful combination of convergence-ready networking, security and high-availability features previously available only in high-end enterprise switches.

As a result, the Matrix V2 makes it possible for mid-market enterprises to deploy network infrastructures with capabilities rivalling those of large enterprises. For example, the Matrix V2`s multilayer classification capabilities enable customers to apply Quality of Service (QoS) to network traffic. This ability to prioritise different types of traffic supports the introduction of new technologies such as voice-over-IP and video, as well as data-intensive applications such as ERP systems.

"The Matrix V2 was selected for our new media and technology building because it provides the benefits of a large modular switch in a compact, rack mountable form factor. Additionally, the reduced cost of the Matrix V2 allowed us to deploy a full featured solution within the constraints of a limited budget," said Dave Beckley, director of network computing and communications at Western Kentucky University.

Enterasys is offering a limited lifetime warranty on the Matrix V2 to address key concerns of mid-market enterprise customers, including investment protection, total cost of ownership and extending product lifecycles. The Matrix V2 is designed for high availability and high performance, ensuring "always on" networking.

"Enterasys is committed to providing customers with technology that delivers a competitive advantage through the combination of secure networks, open convergence and on demand networking," said Mark Aslett, president of Enterasys Networks. "With the introduction of the Matrix V2 series, Enterasys is driving leading-edge networking technology into the mid-market with the industry`s most compelling price points and form factors."

The Matrix V2 is part of a full range of new switching products that Enterasys will announce this year, following the launch of the Matrix N-Series switches in April 2003. The V2`s compact, stackable form factor makes it an ideal solution for smaller wiring closet sizes that are typical in mid-market companies.

The Matrix V2 supports 24 ports of 10/100Base-TX with two expansion slots, which can be used either for uplink connections or stacking modules. The stacking modules support up to eight units, which delivers a total of 192 ports of 10/100Base-TX. This means that customers can start with a single switch in standalone mode, and grow their capacity by adding additional switches as their networking needs evolve. Other key benefits include:

* Easy to deploy and manage -- Customers can manage the Matrix V2 series through an industry-standard command-line interface, an embedded Web server, SNMP-based management applications, Telnet or serial connections. This eliminates the learning-curve for new deployments and ongoing management.

* Extensive security -- The Matrix V2 provides protection against unauthorized use through multiple authentication methods - 802.1X and MAC port locking. The Matrix V2 also provides support for access control lists, as well as SSH, SSL and RADIUS servers.

The Matrix V2 Series is available immediately. For more information, visit Enterasys` Web site at http://www.enterasys.com/products/switching/.
