Enterasys networks unveils X-Pedition Security Router

Johannesburg, 13 May 2002

Enterasys Networks has announced a family of next-generation security routers designed for enterprise network branch office applications.

Dubbed the X-Pedition Security Router 1800 series (XSR-1800 series), the routers are said to deliver powerful remote office networking by combining a rich suite of router features and a broad range of WAN interfaces with enterprise-class virtual private networking (VPN) and policy managed distributed firewalling.

"Because companies have become increasingly dependent on distributed intelligence and expertise, there is a need for a highly secure remote office networking solution with multiple forward migration options and investment protection," says Martin May, regional director, (sub-Saharan Africa) of Enterasys Networks.

"This is underlined by the increasing amounts of sensitive information that travel across corporate networks today, as converging technologies deliver voice, video and data applications to branch offices.

"In the past, branch office routers, firewalls and VPNs have been viewed as standalone products, however, Enterasys has integrated these capabilities into a single, easy-to-manage solution," says May.

Simple configuration and powerful remote management, according to Enterasys, allow customers to easily deploy XSR-1800 series routers at remote locations - even at sites that lack technical support staff. Upgrades and feature enhancements can be completed remotely, and the familiar command line interface reduces IT training costs.

The XSR-1800`s suite of security technologies will be further enhanced by the future integration of Enterasys` Dragon Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) technologies.
