Enterasys, Siemens Business Services join forces for IT learners

Johannesburg, 18 Aug 2004

Enterasys Networks SA has partnered with global reseller and strategic alliance partner Siemens Business Services with the donation of textbooks to local Siemens IT learners.

The donation is made up of 120 textbooks which relate to the networking environment. The books cover all aspects of networking from general networking principles and acronyms, right through to the more sophisticated science of application driven networking and the business benefits therein.

Says Darren Smith, Director Operational Related services at Siemens Business Services: "Considering that text books and training materials are notoriously expensive, this donation of 120 books that are not just Enterasys product-specific, but cover general networking and security management principles, serves to supplement the standard documentation provided through the IT Learnership programme and therefore substantially enhances the quality of training that we are able to provide.

"In the true spirit of partnership, in the past, Enterasys has frequently come to our aid in terms of sponsorships, demonstrating that they are undoubtedly committed to the success and growth of Siemens Business Services and projects like the IT Learnership that we are associated with."

Learnerships are widely acknowledged to be one of the most effective means of true empowerment being offered in SA, making it critical for private enterprise to play an active role in the foundation of these programmes.

Adds Sarel Van Wyk, channel manager at Enterasys Networks South Africa: "Channelling the right education to the youth is imperative and when one has the resources available to distribute there is no reason to hold back. After all, a small investment now can lead to a substantial contribution to the greater education of our youth at a later date.

"Siemens is one of those companies which are always at the forefront of education initiatives involving the youth and it is with this that we are only too happy to help them out on projects like these."

The cost of each textbook is nominal compared to the actual value of the intellectual property and information contained in each. The books in question are the `All you need to know about networking` books, which were compiled by the top technologists within Enterasys internationally. The books have also been available off the shelves at Exclusive Books outlets nationally.

Ends Smith: "As a large and respected international networking company, Enterasys is a valued strategic partner of ours, which offers products and services that are key to our solutions portfolio. We are proud to partner with them in this instance."
