Enterprise Connection, part of the R1-billion-a-year JSE-listed Connection Group, has announced its first web/e-commerce venture following the investment of more than R1m in the establishment of Enterprise Connection Online, a company geared to develop e-commerce solutions for clients.
According to Regal Colyn, Enterprise Connection Online`s MD, the new division would not only focus on web design - as many so-called web/e-commerce companies do - but would handle the technological integration to the client`s back-end while facilitating the systems integration in document management, workflow, ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning), database and data warehousing with Enterprise Connection`s Business Solutions division.
The company also aims to "enhance the overall value chain", enabling its clients` e-commerce systems to talk to their clients and suppliers, as well as interfacing with Enterprise Connection Online`s e-commerce system. "We`ll be using highly-trained consultants who will assess the client`s needs and determine where value can be added to the e-commerce chain, either in the form of intranets or extranets." Colyn said the establishment of Enterprise Connection Online would also enable clients to order products and services on-line, as well as being able to check the status of a repair job, quote or delivery - or retrieve other invaluable information on-line, such as stock availability and pricing.
"The added beauty is that companies do not need to spend inordinate amounts of time interrogating the system to physically monitor the relevant information required. By harnessing technology such as business intelligence and customer management tools, companies are able to automate the overall monitoring, literally obtaining the required information at any time, or any place within the system at the touch of a button."
Colyn said the new e-commerce division will also be hosting customer web sites, a market it anticipates will grow phenomenally during the next 12 months. "More and more companies are seeking assistance in going on-line. It is an incessant and growing demand."
Colyn said the company is due to go live with its first client, www.virtualflorist.co.za.
