Enterprise IT risks failure

Enterprise IT architecture initiatives risk failure if they are unable to demonstrate value to the business, according to Gartner, reports Public Technology.

Gartner analysts predict that by 2010, 40% of existing enterprise architecture programmes will be stopped due to poor execution. Gartner analysts will examine enterprise architecture trends and business dynamics at Gartner's Enterprise Architecture Summit taking place on 26 and 27 September at the Hilton Metropole hotel in London.

"When companies fail, it is because they don't have the strong leadership necessary to bring the enterprise architecture programme together as an integrated portfolio, or the right skills to do the strategic analysis," says Richard Buchanan, managing VP at Gartner.

Sun's offers architect exams

Sun Microsoft announced free beta exams for a new version of its Sun Certified Enterprise Architect certification, reports Cert Cities.

The SCEA version 5 beta will take place in three parts: a multiple choice exam, a written assignment covering design principles, architecture technologies and other topics, and a short essay.

The certification is designed for architects with at least five years of experience. Those who pass all three parts of the beta will be awarded the new certification.

SOA takes off in Asia

IBM has targeted Asia as one of the fastest in the adoption of service-oriented architecture (SOA) to enhance business capability, especially in the financial, insurance, government and telecommunications areas, reports The Nation Technology.

The region is one of the fastest growing in the adoption of IT, especially Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand, while Vietnam and Thailand have the fastest growth overall.

In Thailand, the three sectors with the most potential to adopt SOA are financial, telecommunications and government. In the past few years IBM Thailand has developed SOA clients such as Thai Military Bank, Bank of Ayudhaya, True and the Comptroller General's Department.
