The Global Knowledge Partnership (GKP) has launched a global GKP Youth Award for youth-led information and communications technology (ICT) projects that promote development in their communities. The competition is open to entrants anywhere in the world, and the winning project will receive $10 000.
The GKP Youth Award is an initiative that supports the Youth Creating Digital Opportunities (YCDO) framework. This framework is a coalition of organisations, which was launched in Geneva earlier this year. It aims to help realise the potential of young people as leaders in using ICT for sustainable development.
The YCDO addresses issues such as youth employment and entrepreneurship in the information age. The YCDO framework is spearheaded by the GKP, Taking IT Global, the International Institute for Sustainable Development and the Digital Youth Consortium.
Finalists will showcase their projects to an international body of ICT policy-makers and practitioners at the ICT4D Platform (http://www.ict-4d.org ), held in conjunction with the World Summit on the Information Society in Geneva in December.
Entries close on 31 August, and more information is available here.
