EOH appoints Mathews Phosa as non-executive chairman

Phosa to drive EOH`s quest to find 25% BEE equity partner
Johannesburg, 23 Oct 2003

EOH announced today its intention to split the roles of chairman and chief executive officer (CEO) with the appointment of Dr Mathews Phosa as non-executive chairman to the EOH board of directors.

In line with EOH`s black economic empowerment (BEE) and transformation plan, which includes a short-term intention to sell an equity stake of 25% to a BEE partner, Phosa will play a leading role in realising EOH`s BEE strategy.

"Today, BEE has been elevated to an economic driver," says Phosa. "I hope to actively assist EOH in its transformation and empowerment process as well as getting involved in business development."

A former Mpumalanga Premier, Phosa resigned his seat in Parliament in 1999 and pursued a successful career in business. Prior to his appointment to the EOH board, Phosa held the position of non-executive chairman at Atos KPMG Consulting, an organisation recently acquired by EOH.

Phosa currently holds chairman, vice-chairman and board member duties for over 10 prominent companies, including the Vuka Alliance, Value Logistics and Command Holdings.

Commenting on the new appointment, Asher Bohbot, CEO of EOH, said: "Following regulatory approval for the acquisition of Atos KPMG Consulting earlier this month, it was natural for us to approach Mathews.

"He brings exceptional business acumen to our organisation. Mathews has a wide understanding of the private and public sector and is very knowledgeable in the areas of business development, corporate governance, transformation and empowerment. His experience and leadership ability will be of great benefit to EOH," says Bohbot.

"EOH has a strong management team and I look forward to becoming part of its leadership driving the business forward," concludes Phosa.
