With a set of impeccable financial results just released, EOH continues to garner affirmation for its contribution to the IT services sector with the announcement that its CEO, Asher Bohbot, is a finalist in the South African chapter of the Ernst & Young World Entrepreneur Awards.
According to Ernst & Young, recipients of these awards “manage companies that are real South African success stories” and there is no doubt that EOH is just that. From humble beginnings of 20 staff and one customer in its first year (1998), EOH is today one of southern Africa's top five IT service providers.
The company listed on the main board of the JSE during its first year and went on to show a year-on-year compounded growth of 44%. Profit soared, reaching R32 million in 1999, just under R1 billion in 2008, and R1.255 billion in 2009, despite the global recession.
While Bohbot attributes the company's success to the diversity of its offerings and services and to its unique operating model, he says its clout lies in a 1 600-strong talent pool and an unwavering commitment to transformation. The company currently has 34.3% black shareholding and has 60% black representation on its board of directors. Employment equity figures stand at 43% and preferential procurement at 70%.
