Epicor Software has used Microsoft`s Visual Studio 2005 and .NET Framework 2.0 to develop Epicor Internet Component Environment (ICE) and Epicor for Service Enterprises (E4SE), and is promoting the Microsoft technology for its next-generation manufacturing strategy, called Sonomo.
"When we embarked on the development of next-generation enterprise solutions that our 15 000 customers worldwide could leverage, the logical technology choice was Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 and the .Net Framework 2.0," says John Hiraoka, senior vice-president of marketing for Epicor. Epicor products are distributed, deployed and supported locally by New ERA Solutions.
Scott McKenzie, MD of New ERA Solutions, says the technologies have enabled New ERA Solutions to rapidly build the foundation for its Web services-based enterprise-class solutions. "This has extended the benefits to our enterprise and manufacturing customers at an affordable price point, while also delivering significant development cost reductions and time savings," he says.
Epicor Internet Component Environment (ICE) is said to be a complete Web services application development platform and business process management BPM) framework. Built from the ground up as a service-oriented architecture, Epicor ICE also embeds Microsoft Visual Studio for Applications (VSA) within the Epicor ICE VSA Workbench to customise and extend Web services, the company says.
Also introduced in 2003, Epicor for Service Enterprises is said to be the first XML Web service enterprise service automation (ESA) solution for mid-sized, project-based businesses. Epicor for Service Enterprises uses more than 60 Web services to manage essential business processes more effectively - from resource and project planning to managing travel, expenses and billing, McKenzie adds.
"Both Epicor`s Enterprise and Manufacturing Solutions Groups have demonstrated innovative use of Visual Studio .Net 2003 to deliver more agile, scalable solutions that enable a lower total costs of ownership for the midmarket," says Prashant Sridharan, senior product manager in the Developer and Platform Evangelism Division at Microsoft.
