Epicor introduces second generation eFrontOffice Web Client

By Epicor
Johannesburg, 18 Oct 2000

Epicor Corporation, the largest provider of integrated enterprise and eBusiness software exclusively for midmarket companies, today announced that it is delivering phase two of its Web client for Epicor eFrontOffice, powered by Clientele. The newest version of the Web client allows users to access virtually all housed in Epicor eFrontOffice via a Web browser that displays the same user interface as the standard Windows client. With the Epicor eFrontOffice Web client, remote users can now more easily and securely access and update customer data in real time via a Web browser.

The new browser-based functionality is designed to reduce IT and deployment costs and boost user productivity since any customizations in form design or business rule definitions made to the Windows client are automatically installed in the Web client. Because the Web client retains the look and feel of the Windows client, retraining costs should be substantially reduced if not eliminated. The browser configuration also enables multiple communication options, including local area networks, wide area networks, virtual private networks and regular dial-up connections.

"Giving our sales reps critical customer information while they are in the field was a top priority for us," said John O`Sullivan, IS team leader for Xactware. "With Epicor`s new Web client, reps can access customer data, place and check the status of orders, all using a Web browser. We will now be able to fully access data while reducing maintenance time."

With this release, security rules and access rights are shared across both the Web and Windows clients, eliminating the need to redefine security options. Epicor`s second generation Web client also uses an n-tiered architecture that enables users to add application servers to increase scalability.

"The phase two release of Epicor eFrontOffice Web client marks the successful delivery of Epicor`s commitment to offer a fully functional Web-enabled solution as promised in its 2000 strategy," said Greg Horton, product marketing director for Epicor eFrontOffice. "By delivering this product, Epicor becomes one of the few companies to offer customers one-stop customization of Windows and Web functionality. The ability to customize once to create an identical appearance and functionality for both clients should prove a great benefit to midmarket companies faced with limited IT resources."

Availability

The phase two Web client is available immediately at no extra charge to new and existing Epicor customers. It is compatible with the Clientele 7.0 and Epicor eFrontOffice 7.0 releases.
