Epson unveils advanced photo printer
In addition to other advanced features, including fine art and roll paper media handling and wireless connectivity, this printer uses Epson's UltraChrome K3 Ink with Vivid Magenta ink set which features an expanded colour gamut and a greatly improved range of expression.
This is made possible with newly formulated vivid magenta and vivid light magenta inks that offer more dramatic blues and violets as compared to the previous generation Epson UltraChrome K3 ink set.
The ink set also has three levels of black ink to produce monochrome prints and improve gradations in colour photos, with automatic switching between matte and photo black inks depending on the media used.
According to Photo Radar, Epson also claims that its new photo printer is a response to customer demands for higher-capacity ink cartridges, with the Stylus Photo R2000 using 17ml ink cartridges.
“The print-head delivers a variable droplet size down to 1.5pl, resulting in high precision and smooth gradations,” says Neil Wilson, business manager at Epson UK. “It also has an ink mixing function to prevent ink settling in the cartridges, making colour reproduction as accurate as possible.”
The Epson R2000 printer can also print directly on to CDs, DVDs and thicker stock, such as poster board, Epson says.
Cnet says larger ink tanks are bound to be one of the more popular enhancements; according to Epson, they'll generate 50% more prints than the previous iteration.
Other printer-friendly updates include a front-loading paper path for media up to 1.3mm thick (The R1900 was limited to 0.9mm thickness through the rear-loading path.)
Epson has also adapted its AccuPhoto halftoning algorithms for use with the existing UltraChrome Hi-Gloss 2 ink set, dubbed AccuPhoto HG.
On a more prosaic note, the printer offers 100Mb Ethernet and Wireless-N connectivity options.
