eScan enters new year with vigour

Receives ICSA and AV-Comparatives certifications.

Johannesburg, 14 Jan 2010

eScan, a leading information security solution that provides proactive protection against virus, spam, Trojan, and many other information security threats, has recently achieved yet another milestone by acquiring the ICSA Labs certification. In addition to this, eScan also received the much coveted Gold award in Malware Removal, and Bronze award in AV-Comparative's On-Demand PUA detection.

The ICSA Labs' Anti-Virus Certification Program provides the user community with the assurance that all ICSA Labs Certified anti-virus products comply with industry-accepted criteria.

To achieve the ICSA Labs Anti-Virus Certification, products must meet critical criteria for detection of malware in desktops. Products are required to detect 100% of the viruses in several test sets, including current “In The Wild List”. eScan passed the test by showing an excellent performance on testing done on Windows 7 platform.

Apart from this, eScan has proven its robustness as an anti-virus yet again by winning awards for displaying excellent detection and removal rates in the annual report released by AV-Comparatives. These reports choose the annual winner from among the top scorers in various tests conducted during the year 2009.

In case of Malware removal, eScan not only detected malware, but also removed it completely and was awarded the Gold award. eScan has also received a Bronze award in On Demand PUA Detection. The amount of adware, spyware and other fraudulent software circulating on the Internet, which are not typical malware, are called “Potentially Unwanted Applications” (PUA). eScan has proved to have a good coverage (over 98%) of potentially unwanted applications.

Speaking on this, Mr Govind Rammurthy, Managing Director and CEO of eScan, said: “Certifications like ICSA reiterates that eScan provides the highest level of information security to its customers. Such awards motivate us to continuously innovate and provide breakthrough technology solutions to our customers that will secure them from all information security threats. In order to keep pace with changing threat scenarios, an anti-virus solution has to be consistently upgrading itself. The Gold and Bronze awards from AV-Comparatives highlight the consistent performance of eScan in successfully thwarting the information security threats posed by the modern hi-tech cyber-criminals to both home users and businesses.”

Congratulating eScan on the awards, Andreas Clementi, Chairman, CEO and Senior Tester at AV-Comparatives.org, AV-Comparatives, said: “eScan has won a Gold and a Bronze for its very good malware removal capabilities and high spyware detection rates. Winning these awards makes eScan the only Indian Internet security software product this year to achieve this honour. Many programs that are not listed on AV-Comparatives would not reach the minimum requirements to participate; therefore the ones that are included in our tests can be considered to be a selection of very good and high quality anti-virus products.”

Since its launch, eScan 10 has been proven to be a technologically advanced solution providing a simplified GUI, which makes it easy to operate for a novice user too. For more tech savvy users, eScan 10 offers multi-level protection with advanced configuration controls providing enterprise-grade configurability to those who want it. eScan 10 also features real-time network activity monitors, making use of a TCP viewer utility, solidly implemented high quality main anti-malware and anti-hacking components and many additional tools.
